Cheshire Police has confirmed no risk was posed to the public after armed officers were sent to a Home Guard re-enactment event.

On Monday the force was alerted to reports of an armed gang sauntering around Chester.

But officers found they were war-history enthusiasts drumming up publicity for a Home Guard re-enactment.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Police were called on Monday 7 May at 6.30pm to reports of two men dressed in military gear and carrying two replica firearms on Grosvenor Park Road in Chester.

“Officers attended and quickly established there was no harm to the public and the men were promoting a re-enactment event believed to be taking place next week in Chester.”
